Childbook Mashup- March 7, 2013

Okay, this assignment from ds106 was a blast to create. I took two of my all time favorite children's books and mashed them up. This was a little tricky for me to design in Adobe photoshop, but hope that it turned out okay. The books I selected were: "When I'm six, I'll Fix Anthony" and "If Dinosaurs Were Cats and Dogs".

Summary of design assignments, four daily creates and 15 points. March 3, 2013

In spite of all that's currently going on in my life along with my uncle's critical condition, I feel pressed to get this assignment turned in as soon as possible. I seem to recall from class there was mention of creating a poster of all the design elements that our class took. At least, I thought I heard this as I jotted my notes. Therefore, I will design a poster with the elements I posted to the ds 106's open document. For now, here's my summary of my work--

It took me forever to figure out the design safari and how to post links to the open document at ds 106. I was going through doing my 15 worth of points and tagging them as "designblitz". By the second night, (and many cups of decaf hot tea and chocolate), I figured out how to do both. I snapped pictures of random items in my house since I was snowed in and didn't feel like braving the cold weather to find examples of typography, balance, color, etc. Therefore, I slipped on my fuzzy slipper, charged up my camera phone and searched my environment. It turned out to be an interesting indoor safari and since I've never scouted for design elements before I started college, this assignment was my second hardest to complete. The first one was the "I am from" poem due to its sentimental/reflective impact.

I was numb sitting in class, taking notes when the design assignment was announced. I was worried about my uncle, whose been sick for the past six weeks. I tried to maintain my focus, but it was difficult. I just got around to commenting on a few of my classmates blogs, but didn't make it to each one of them. In retrospect, it was a very hectic design assignment. However, I have no idea how to take video notes with the cartoon-like images drawn in some computer format while video taping it. I watched the example shown in class, then watched a video on it from a ds 106'er.  I can't wrap my head around it quite yet. I'm visual, which means, I enjoy seeing how things are done. If I watch a video of doodling and can only see it appearing on the screen as it's being done, then my focus is lost. I also do best with video tutorials as well to show what program  (if any), software used, or device its created on, like iPad for example, etc.  I'm still in my noobie technological faze and eagerly learning all I can.

I am From Poster with Opacity design March 2, 2013

The re-designed version of my "I am From" poem with Opacity design. March 2, 2013. What made this difficult for me was that I never used Wordpress and was extremely unfamiliar with its layout and design elements. I seldom ever used PDF formats and grappled with uploading several of those. I'm strictly a Jpeg gal and have exported more files into Jpegs than any other file format. So, here's my re-vamped poster design with opacity and my poem. :)

I'm still tackling my design safari assignment and looking to finish that sometime tomorrow hopefully. Through it all I'm experiencing personal grief, worry and upset that has nothing to do with assignments or school. My uncle, who had taken ill six weeks ago with pancreatitis and a double case of Pneumonia, is still in the hospital and his condition is extremely bad.

Along with doing the commenting, tagging and reflective blogging about any societal/cultural implications that arise with how I feel my usual assignment follow-ups, and cranking out two tdc's each week, but sometimes enjoy doing more than that,  I feel I must add that my Uncle's condition is the biggest obstacle standing in my way. All I ask for is prayers and will do my best to keep on top of everything in the meantime.

What is a podcast?

It is a multimedia digital file made as a download on the Internet for a digital media device or a computer. It takes a lot to make one’s own podcast and without knowing the technical basis of it, there’s plenty of self-help guides, like this fantastic one:

In fact, the how-to-guides were so vast, that I found the one that seemed easy to try.

The history of the podcast dates back to the 1980’s, when it was once known as “audioblogging”. However, podcasting didn’t gain momentum until late 2007 with the iPod according to Wikipedia. Since that time there are now more than 11,000-2,000 podcasts and most can be found on iTune. The technology involved with podcasts is vast, but here are a few of things to get started creating your own podcast:

There are some free ones, but getting away from iTunes seems to be difficult for some users. RSS feeds only seems to allow a download of five podcasts, and to use it, the subscriber would have to pay $17. I found the information here:

I think podcasting caught on because it was in demand back when the internet was still relatively new for most households as far back as the 90’s. I think that the future of podcasts are like anything else; they’ll continue to be mainstays until something else that’s technologically viable phases out that particular media format like compact discs did to the Long Play (LP) record.

Do I enjoy listening to podcasts already? Yes.

Dismuke started out small sometime back in 2007 or so when I discovered them, then expanded their play list later on. However, some Windows missing plug-ins might be required in order to download the music before listening to it on this site. Also, some of the content isn’t free and data plans to apply depending on what mobile device one has according to Loud City.

I’ve loved this late vaudeville comedian Cal Stewart when I first heard him on the Victor 78 way back in the early 90’s. However, back then, he was laughing and reciting a far-fetched tales through the wooden louvers of a Victrola Talking Machine.

I selected this one because it appeals to the specific music that I like to listen to nowadays.
